West Coast Falconry Academy’s

Apprentice Seminar

West Coast Falconry Academy’s Apprentice Seminar is a comprehensive three-day course for the prospective falconer. The course schedule is demanding and follows the California Hawking Club (CHC) study guide and apprentice manual. In addition, students will be taken out on simulated hunts for the opportunity to learn field etiquette and some hunting strategies.

We understand that falconers are born and not made. Three days is certainly not enough time needed to become a falconer. However, students that complete this course will come away with the knowledge of how much time is required to become a falconer. The student will know how to choose a sponsor and will learn where to begin.

This course is a good primer for raptor rescue volunteers and others interested in learning falconry techniques. The seminar includes husbandry, manning and training. During one of the three evening classes, students will make their own jesses and leashes. Students will be taught the language of falconry. Potential sponsors will know that our graduates will have a good understanding of the basics of falconry. Included in the fee is a CHC study guide and membership to the CHC.
